About the Author

Even as a kid, Gayle Kerr-McFadden wanted to be a writer and creator. Her first "published book" was a collection of ghost stories written on notebook paper, illustrated with magic markers, and duplicated by hand in elementary school. An avid reader from a young age, she loved to solve a mystery with Nancy Drew and her friends, explore life on the prairie with Laura Ingalls Wilder, and step into the magical world of Narnia with C.S. Lewis.

Books fueled Gayle's imagination and creativity, and they still do today. As a children's author, Gayle hopes to inspire kids to imagine, explore, create, and have fun in the world around us. In addition to her published picture books, she just finished writing her first middle grade fiction novel - an adventure/mystery set in America's great outdoors.

Gayle is a native of the midwestern United States - born and raised in Nebraska - where she lives with her husband and three sons. She is also the proud "mom" of a rambunctious goldendoodle, who hopes to star in one of her future picture books. When Gayle's not writing, she enjoys reading (of course), spending time with her family, and doing fun stuff outdoors. She loves roller coasters, skiing, and hiking.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Gayle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). In addition to creative writing, Gayle has a made a career in business writing/ communications.
